For 10 years, Nina has worked in the childcare industry, caring for children with the same love and attention she gives her own 3-year-old daughter, Naya. Her commitment to others is what drives her, and she is motivated to find ways to better herself and her family.
When Nina first heard about the Goodwill State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) program from another mom at her childcare job, she was intrigued. The program offered a chance to expand her skills and earn extra income, but it also represented something more—an opportunity for personal growth and a chance to progress in her career.
Nina recently completed the STNA program and has already seen how it’s opened new possibilities for her future. She praises the program for how it builds both knowledge and confidence, and she has high praise for the instructors, especially the way they provide both structure and encouragement.
“It’s just bettering your life,” Nina says, reflecting on the program’s lasting impact.
The road wasn’t always easy. As a single mom with a full-time job, balancing school and family responsibilities was a challenge. But Nina’s focus and determination kept her going.
“People say the work is taxing, which it is, but I feel like it’s worth it,” she says.
And Nina’s is already looking toward the future. Her goal is to become a certified MedTech, continuing her path of growth and self-improvement.
Her experience with the Goodwill STNA program has been so positive that Nina has already referred her sister to join. She believes in the opportunities it provides—and the way it’s made her life better.
For anyone considering a similar path, Nina’s advice is simple: “Just do it—but make sure you’re doing the work.”
The effort may be taxing at times, but the rewards are worth it.
As Nina puts it, “I’m happier, so [my family] is happier.”
Nina’s story is a reminder that with hard work and perseverance, we’re all capable of achieving more than we often realize.
