Transitional Work

It is true; finding and keeping a job is more difficult for some of us than it is for others. For those who have experienced difficulty, the Transitional Work program can help you overcome the issues that have caused you problems in the past.

This program is perfect for people who have never had a job, have had difficulty keeping a job, or feel anxious when facing a new work environment.

Programming is offered in two settings; at a Goodwill-owned business or at a community business site. You will receive classroom training, as well as the support of a Rehabilitation Specialist who will help you learn the skills needed to maintain successful employment.

While participating in the work portion of the program, a job coach will reinforce the skills you have learned, ensure that you meet production standards, and help with your adaptation into the work culture. You will receive minimum wage or a piece-rate for all work performed.

To do this, you will work closely with an Employment Services Specialist who is specifically trained to help you explore job options, strengthen your job-seeking skills, apply for jobs, go on interviews, and secure employment. Of course, the most important step in this process is the relationship you will build with your Employment Specialist. These are people who share your goals and care about you and your success.

The entire process is designed to empower you to find a job that advances your individual career goals. Once you are employed, we will continue to be there for you. In fact, you will have access to a Job Retention Technician, a coach, who will help you adjust to your new work environment. We will even step in on your behalf to help you keep your job if you begin to struggle.

Your participation in this program will offer tremendous advantages. Not only will you receive job readiness training, you will also have access to job opportunities as a result of the wide-range of employer relationships Goodwill Columbus has built over the years.
