Sage Senior Services at Goodwill Columbus received media attention from The Columbus Dispatch for its Project Runway, a fashion show modeled after the long- running television show of the same name on the Lifetime network. Individuals with developmental disabilities in Goodwill’s adult day services program participated in Project Runway by creating clothing made from newspapers. Their designs were then modeled on a Paris-style runway. The crafted outfits were based on themed sections – front page, sports, food -- of local newspapers. The outfits were judged during the competition by a panel of five, including a representative of retail clothier, Abercrombie and Fitch. Awards were given for different categories including most creative, best use of material and crowd favorite. The participants, numbering more than 70 individuals, had fun during the month-long clothing design project. Many of them, including those who took to the catwalk, built their confidence, self esteem and pride during the project. To watch the video click here.
