Heinen Named VP Of Operations And Business Strategy For Goodwill Columbus
Jim Heinen has been named Vice President of Operations and Business Strategy for Goodwill Columbus. Heinen most recently served as Director and General Manager for The Ohio State University’s South Campus Gateway. He will begin his new position with Goodwill effective November 11.
As a member of the executive leadership team at Goodwill, Heinen will lead new business development initiatives, seek new partnerships in contract services and identify growth opportunities to achieve financial goals for the $41 million agency. He will oversee operational functions including Human Resources, Business & Facility Services and Transportation, and will be responsible for overseeing the agency’s strategic plan.
For the past six years, Heinen directed all administrative and operational activities of OSU’s South Campus Gateway -- the $154 million university asset that included $2.8 million in residential leasing space, $1.5 million in parking sales, and $7.3 million in retail and office leasing. Gateway is the signature project in a decade-long partnership between OSU and the City of Columbus to improve the quality of life in the urban neighborhoods known collectively as the University District. Heinen developed operating goals, set performance standards for all areas, built strategic partnerships with service providers, and coordinated leasing efforts and capital planning.
Prior to that time, Heinen had a 22-year career with Marriott International, most recently as General Manager for The Columbus Renaissance Hotel. With $20 million in annual sales, Heinen rebranded and relaunched the hotel to capture 150% revenue growth. He also was a regional director of Marriott International, overseeing the hotel chain’s Florida region, which encompassed 900 employees, 37 properties, and $100 million in annual sales. As a result of his leadership, he earned a number of awards from Marriott during that time, including its prestigious Regional Director Champion Award and Region of the Year Award. Before becoming a regional director, Heinen attained the General Manager of the Year Award and was a general manager for Marriott International in Wilmington, Delaware and Columbus, Ohio.

Heinen holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education & Technology from Western Illinois University and is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program of the Aspen Institute, Washington, D.C. He is a licensed real estate professional in the state of Ohio. He is a past board member of the Capitol South Improvement District and Experience Columbus, and a member of the United States Green Building Council, the Building Owners and Managers Association, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
He and his wife Shirley have two sons, Alex and Zach. The family resides in Westerville.
