Grand Opening of Newest Goodwill Columbus Retail Location August 28

Goodwill Columbus invites shoppers to the grand opening of its newest retail store at 5130 Hamilton Rd. with a public ribbon cutting celebration beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 28. As a part of the morning celebration, Goodwill will treat shoppers to music, donuts and coffee. Store doors open at 10:00 a.m., with the first 100 shoppers receiving door buster goodie bags. Shoppers can also have a chance to crack the code on the “Visible Vault” to win $25,000, enter raffles for $50 Goodwill gift certificates and enter a raffle to win a flat screen television.

The party will continue through the day with Sunny 95 on-site from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—with the Roosters Wing Wagon and Treat Truck in tow—plus games, prizes and more. Grand opening festivities will end at 2:00 p.m. and the store will close at 9:00 p.m.

“For the second time this year, I have the great fortune to cut the ribbon on a brand new Goodwill retail store,” said Goodwill Columbus President and CEO Margie Pizzuti. “All revenue earned through Goodwill retail stores and other business lines provides vital support for the organization’s true north—job training programs for individuals with barriers to employment.”

The new store will span 18,000 sq. ft., feature natural lighting, exposed ceilings, polished concrete floors and a micro-gallery of artwork created by artists with disabilities and other barriers and a spacious covered donation drop-off area. All eight Goodwill Columbus retail locations are open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Goodwill Columbus Retail Expansion

Fact Sheet

Overview:

Goodwill Columbus took a long, hard look at the landscape of serving jobseekers with developmental disabilities and other barriers in central Ohio and one thing became clear- steps must be taken to ensure the sustainability of our organization. We understand that local and national funding sources—government, corporate, and foundation-- are continually stretched thin as the needs of our community’s citizens continue to rise.  Our agency must continue advancing, rigorously, our model of social enterprise through the businesses we operate, to assure we can provide a level of predictability and financial stability with earned income revenue streams to support our vital mission services. Therefore, we decided to nearly double our retail presence in Central Ohio with the opening of multiple retail flagship stores in Columbus within the next three years.

Store Features:

Each new store will be freestanding and newly built, spanning 15,000 to 18,000 total square feet. And as stated in the release, will be unlike any in the market. Natural lighting, exposed ceilings, polished concrete floors and a spacious covered donation drop-off area welcome our shoppers and donors. Each store will also feature “micro gallery” displays of artwork created by artists with disabilities and other barriers in The Goodwill Art Studio & Gallery.  Goodwill has also extended an invitation to other Ohio artists who use repurposed and/or ‘upcycle’ materials to sell on consignment in the stores.

Timeline:

Within the next three years, Goodwill Columbus will open five new flagship retail stores. The next grand opening to look forward to will be in Canal Winchester in 2016.

Investment:

Each store will create approximately 40 new jobs. Goodwill is working with Berengaria Development, a real estate consulting, development and management services firm, which has overseen construction of many new Goodwill stores
